Welcome to the world of Post-Classical
A series dedicated to pushing the boundaries of our art-forms in the 21st century
So, you dreamed of studying music, but it wasn’t the free, creative space you hoped it’d be?
Hey, I’m Manny!
I’ve been playing the guitar for as long as I can remember, and have always felt most at home exploring sonic spaces🔮
While I’m about to be receiving my Doctorate of Music, it’s this same system that almost lead to abandoning my instrument all-together.
I went from playing in a progressive metal band to pursuing an education as a solo classical guitarist. While it’s been an incredible journey that’s given me a perspective on music that I feel lucky to have, it also left me a little confused about my artistic identity.
Relatable?
Thankfully, I was lucky enough to meet some amazing folks along the way that opened my mind up to the possibilities of classical music. It made me realize the value of my individual interests in this field, and after all this time, I felt I needed to look back to rediscover my childhood curiosity for musical exploration. While I still do feel like a classical musician deep down, it exists in a world of so many inspirations and influences that shapes everything I make!
Over the last few years, I developed what I call:
The Modular Artistic Practice for the Post-Classical Musician
Now, I’m putting together the Post-Classical Series, to show YOU how to navigate our evolving musical landscape and create the art of your wildest imaginations!
But what does this sound like?
This is one of my songs — the way water breathes — and it pulls from musical influences in progressive music, post-rock, and ambient genres! I wanted to create a musical world that mashed up my love for players like Tosin Abasi and Yvette Young, with my classical guitar playing. So I decided to use Yvette’s guitar tuning, Tosin’s technical approaches, and a bunch of effects à la Hologram Electronics and Chase Bliss!
~Community~
The key to all of this is COMMUNITY — to learn from one another, and create an accessible world of music making! My goal with this newsletter is to bring artists together to expand the possibilities of our music in the 21st century.
So how is this going to work?
There will be a new post up on here every week, but you can also follow me over on Instagram to stay up to date with the accompanying video series!
All of this is FREE, and always will be — I want to help make this as accessible as possible and help you find your own way in this evolving musical landscape✨
If you like what I do and want to support my work
